Angel’s Choir

The Angels Choir is a member of the Papaver rhoeas species that contains pastel colors in flowers that are one of the poppies that have the pastel colored flowers and the carnation like appearance.

The blooms are in pastel colors of pinks, dusty rose, apricot, peach, cream and white, with some even having a grayish appearance. This is a double bloom poppy with blooms that have the appearance of a carnation with its many petals and of water colored painted blooms.

The foliage is dark green in color with medium sized leaves that have slices making them appear frilled at the edges. The stems are of medium thickness and unlike other members of the poppy family they do not have hair.

This is one of the Papaver family that can be used as a border or planted in large pots growing 24 to 30 inches in height. The seeds of this poppy should be planted in the autumn as they will then flower in early summer. They should be planted in a site where it is sunny and are a hearty flower that will grow in most locations with the right soil conditions. The soil should be of a loamy mix and well draining.

The Angels Choir unlike some members of the Papaver family can be harmful if eaten. These flowers can be purchased in seed packets containing 400 seeds or more and for a longer blooming of the Angels Choir the seed plantings can be staggered.
