Poppy Festivals

There are two festivals held to honor the poppies each year and along with poppy flowers, garden information and other poppy things these festivals have all types of family fun, entertainment and foods. One is held in Lancaster California to celebrate their state flower and the other is held in a Central Texas town that has been named the Red Poppy Capital of Texas.

The poppy is not only a popular garden plant it is also the state flower of California and each year there is a poppy festival held to honor their state flower. In honoring their state flower it is a fun time for anyone that attends with all types of entertainment, foods and of course poppies. This festival is held yearly in Lancaster California to honor their state flower while providing two days of fun, entertainment and food for festival goers. The California poppy is the Eschscholzia californica and is known as a golden poppy from the class Magnoliopsida.

Another of these festivals is held to honor the poppy in Georgetown Texas where the hold a Red Poppy Festival. The town has grown the red poppy for 70 years and it has become an important part of their landscape. For ten years they have held an annual red poppy festival each spring and because it is a festival there is all types of foods and entertainment. The Texas state legislature named Georgetown as the Red Poppy Capital of Texas and during their Red Poppy festival they also hold a Red Poppy parade for the visitors to the festival.
