Native Orange
The Native Orange is a poppy species that belongs to the Eschscholtzia californica and as a native of California is poppy growth without much fuss or care by the gardener when planted in hot arid at climates.
The flowers of this poppy great golden orange, with gray green foliage with fern like leaves. The petals of the flower are silky and the golden orange color is deep with a shiny appearance. These puppies grow to approximately 12 to 15 inches and are able to handle a light frost when planted in well draining soil.
They require full sun during the early spring and for a longer blooming season the seeds should be planted in fall unless it is poor soil conditions. Because this species of poppy does not require much care they can be planted in areas where other flowers would not do well, such as hillsides. Once sewn in the ground during the early spring will take 7 to 14 days to germinate. Since these are a poppies that requires little care they do not require fertilizing and only during extreme dry conditions will they need to be watered, although when they have the proper amounts of water they will bloom more frequently.
Even though the Native Orange poppy is happiest in the warm climate of California it is a species that can be grown in any location with the proper care and full sunlight for warmth. |
