Is Poppy Oil Healthy ?

Poppy seed oil is made by pressing the seeds of the Papaver somniferum and also some other poppy species, these seeds are a kidney shape and since the poppy requires no type of fertilizer they are naturally organic. This oil is a quality oil that is similar to sunflower oil and is said to have some health benefits. The seeds do not contain the alkaloids that have narcotic properties and are said to contain linoleic acid. The linoleic acid that is found in the poppy seed oil is only found in the first pressing of the seeds, which is a cold pressing and will not be found in the second pressing that is done using heat and is not edible. This second pressing of the seeds is only usable for use in ingredients in manufacturing products for painting, liniment and products such as oil for lamps.

Linoleic acid is one of the important omega 6 fatty acids that is known to be beneficial in protecting the heart from cardiovascular diseases and from heart attacks. The fatty acids and essential enzymes that are found in the oil are beneficial to athletes, because the linoleic acid contained in the poppy seed oil helps with their cardiovascular health.

They are believed by some to help normalize the metabolism in the body and help with digestion, due to the properties that is in the poppy seed oil.

The properties of this oil also are beneficial in treating damaged skin in creams, balms and conditioners.
