Famous People That Used Opium
There have been many people throughout history that have been heard of, because they have made their mark and they also have an opium users.
One of the earliest known users was Marcus Aurelius, this emperor of the Roman Empire began using opium for medical reasons and while he was reining Rome he was also an opium addict. The famous author Charles Dickens penned a Christmas Carol was also addicted to opium and used it until his death. The famous horror film actor Bela Lugosi was known to have frequented opium dens and used morphine excessively.
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle who wrote many books about the exploits of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, as a writer gave Holmes the trait of using opium. Not only did the Sherlock Holmes use a opium in at least one of his cases, he used a known opium den to find the criminal he was seeking.
There has also been evidence found that people such as Benjamin Franklin, Billie holiday, John Keats, King George V, Florence Nightingale, Edgar Allan Poe, Pontinus, Pablo Picasso, the Queen Victoria and Sir Walter Scott who have all been associated with the use of opium.
While today might be shocking to find that a person in power, the famed artist or poet, as well as the professions of these people were known to have used and then addicted to opium and while it was acceptable in the past it would not be an acceptable habit today.
