The perfect garden
Every gardener wants the perfect garden and many believe it is impossible to go wrong planting any species of the poppy and there are several reasons for this. The first reason is that the different poppy species are native in many areas and when a plant is native to a region that makes it all the easier to grow in the garden.
The second reason is these plants are annuals and perennials, with some lasting three years while others can last as long as twenty years. This means they will be returning every season without the need to replant and many drop their seeds and will spread each year.
The third reason is as long as the poppy is planted in a location where the soil drains properly and does not stay wet assures that they will grow and bloom season after season. If they are a poppy species that is not native to the area with a few small adjustments almost any species can be grown outside of their native habitat.
The fourth reason why poppies can make the perfect garden flowers is because depending on the species will depend on its height. There are poppies that grow from 2 inches in height to ten feet in height, with the most common growing from 24 inches to 36 inches. There are miniature poppies that grow to approximately 12 inches and this means it is possible to have a garden filled with a rainbow of colors from the ground cover to the tallest flower in the garden and they all can be poppies of different varieties. |
