Why Do People Drink Poppy Tea
Poppy tea has been used for thousands of years to combat several things, chronic pain, sleeplessness and other ailments. Some people today drink poppy tea for chronic pain, while others drink it because of an addiction to opiates.
Which is something that was not known about the use of the alkaloids found in this plant thousands of years ago or even hundreds of years ago, but was a way to treat many conditions medically. Many cultures believe this tea to be a miracle aid for some conditions and for sleep problems and did not realize if it was used too often they would feel the effects detoxing.
The tea is made from the crushed poppy pods which today are illegal in some countries, but in the distant past could be grown in a person’s garden just as other medicinal herbs and flowers were grown. Then at a later time in history a trip to the apothecary and a person could acquire a powder that was then taken home and steeped in water to make tea. This power that was acquired at the apothecary was the power of the opium pods, which was made by an attendant at the apothecary and packaged into proper amount to make the tea. Doctors often prescribed this in the past but they did not realize the addiction they were creating for their patients.
Today people drink poppy tea for two reasons the first is either medically related for chronic pain or to ease the withdrawals from morphine or heroin. The second reason is for the opiate effects rather than as medicinal tea. |
